  • Many of the relatively cheap rackets sold for beginners have quite soft shafts, but this racket, while affordably priced, is 10 mm long, 4U with even balance, and has a normal feel, making it the most "middle-of-the-road" spec of any carbon racket. It has a corresponding solid response when you hit, too. As a beginner, stringing it a little loose makes it easy to hit far, and once you get better, stringing it tighter lets it handle hard hitting too. Above all, it's cheap to buy, so I think it can serve as a benchmark for anyone buying their first competition racket. A great first racket for newcomers starting in a school club.
    Addendum: It seems MMOA has gone out of business. It's probably only available while existing stock lasts, so if you're interested, I recommend grabbing one as soon as you find it. The AIR POWER 2700 and others are "almost the same," though the colors differ.

  • YONEX's shuttle range has shrunk, but this one, STANDARD and NEW OFFICIAL remain a constant part of the lineup. It has stable flight and durability, good enough to be used at practice sessions hosted by city and town associations.
    It's "unfair" to compare its flight and durability with NEW OFFICIAL, but you'll feel improved durability and more stable flight worth the few hundred yen per tube extra over STANDARD. It also doesn't break in a way where the feathers "fly right off," so you can use it all the way through game practice ⇒ basic rallies ⇒ feeding drills. It's an ally for anyone running an adult club, and when you're torn and have to check with your wallet, I don't think there's any other option. It feels a bit lighter than approved shuttles, but it's plenty for regular game practice.

  • These are my impressions after buying six tubes at once and using them in a beginner to intermediate adult club. The flight is "reasonably natural," but when used in game practice, I felt that the way it breaks is especially sudden. Just when you think it was flying steadily up to the previous rally, a feather snaps off and the shuttle starts spinning around, and it often breaks like that, making it hard to keep using afterward. There's also some variation in the condition of the feathers, and sometimes there are a few mixed in that worry me even before I've used them.
    Many shops give you one free tube of Thomas Cup shuttles for every five you buy, so if you buy in bulk, the price per tube should be reasonable.

  • Since it's the racket used by Matsutomo, it's one you often see in women's doubles at municipal tournaments. The metallic pink coloring on a white base really stands out.
    However, my impression after borrowing it and hitting with it is that it's quite head-heavy and the shaft is very flexible, a really "quirky" racket. If you swing at the net imagining Matsutomo's graceful front-court play, you get a solid sense of contact, and above all, because the head is heavy, you need to be very conscious about bringing it back and holding the racket up. It's a 5U, but honestly I couldn't feel that it's a maneuverable racket.
    When I hit a smash, the head really whipped through and I went "Whoa!", but since the shaft is flexible, I think you can use the flex even if you're not a power hitter. The frame is solid, so control is actually on the good side, and if you can hit firmly at the net, you can also hit strong pushes that drop. If you're conscious of using the head, you can also hit defensive clears deep when you're in trouble.
    As you'd expect from a racket chosen by a medalist, despite its cute paint job, it felt like a racket "for intermediate to advanced women who understand head-heavy balance and can swing properly."

  • This is one of YONEX's cheap shuttles. I cannot feel any value beyond "Hey, these are waterfowl feathers!"
    There is no occasion to use them except for basic hitting or serve practice when I think, "Well, might as well use new ones." At this price, you are better off paying 300 yen more for another company's 2,500-yen product, or pushing a little further and buying STANDARD.
    The clear trajectory is not natural (a deep high clear does not drop properly from above), and the durability is nothing special. You could truly say you get what you pay for. The unnatural flight, the poor feel (a bad cork base?), shuttles that tend to shoot off relatively far, the occasional slightly chipped one that is almost a defect... many things bother me. I would not want to use them for game practice, but if you buy them accepting that this is what you get at this price, there is no particular problem.
